A Motorized Dolly for Light Aircraft

Load-bearing mechatronic prototype

Habitat for Aviation, a non-profit based in Vermont, fields light aircraft like Cessnas from a space-constrained hangar. Because of specific maneuverability requirements, they wanted to explore a custom solution.

Design and Fabrication

After pitching proof of concept renders (left), we decided to modify an existing Daytona car dolly. After welding on a custom plasma-cut steel frame and mounting two powerful electric motors, the dolly could hold and move the weight of an airplane wheel in any direction.
